The Volunteer Sri Lanka Project

is a wide ranging project to help a poor community on the outskirts of
Galle, Sri Lanka. It's run by a local Sri Lankan who is a dedicated
philanthropist. Basically, he needs volunteers with all skills. Whatever
your skill, he will be able to put it to good use. So, have a look at
his website. He needs everything from teachers to medics to people
capable of teaching all subjects including sports, builders, plumbers electricians and anything
else you can think of!
I have volunteered here 3 times. You
won't find many such wide ranging projects anywhere. It's a family run
philanthropic volunteer project aimed at raising standards and bridging
communities to improve the lives of poor and sometimes destitute people.
